My Auckland: Ken Maumalo

Vodafone Warriors winger Ken Maumalo always expounds Auckland's virtues and is especially proud of the South Auckland community he hails from.

Named 2019 Dally M NRL winger of the year, Maumalo played his junior rugby league for the Papatoetoe Panthers.

He talks about his Auckland ahead of the 'Codes of Auckland' rugby league-rugby union double header at Eden Park on Saturday, March 21, when the Vodafone Warriors host Canberra in their first home game of the new NRL season while the Blues face the Brumbies in their Super Rugby encounter.

I know I’m in Auckland when I … see the Sky Tower.
The Sky Tower is an icon of Auckland's skyline and New Zealand's tallest building at 328m.

The best thing I've discovered in Auckland is ... Piha Beach.
Piha is New Zealand's most famous surf beach. Situated on the west coast of Auckland, this black sand beach is great for swimming and has amazing views.

When I want to show Auckland off to my friends from out of town I ... take them to Denny’s Restaurant in Manukau City.

When friends visit, where do you take them for dinner?  Eight at Cordis in the city.
Eight different flavours come alive when you dine at Eight Restaurant, Cordis, Auckland's international buffet restaurant.

My local is ... Mangere Town Centre.

My most memorable food experience in Auckland was ... having chop suey in Otara in South Auckland.
Sapasui “Samoan Chop Suey” recipe is hugely popular in the Pacific regions of Samoa and Fiji, a variation on the Chinese Chop Suey recipe.

In my spare time you'll find me ... having a swim at Piha Beach.

The one thing I hope never changes in Auckland is ... the people. They make Auckland what it is.

Playing on Eden Park will be ... amazing.
