Four ‘s’ words were in plentiful supply when the Vodafone Warriors hit one of New Zealand’s favourite summer playgrounds for their annual preseason camp last week.

The golden stretch of ocean beaches from Mount Maunganui down to Papamoa greeted them as they set up camp for hard graft mixed with a little relief here and there.

In what has been a searing summer, the Vodafone Warriors didn’t want for the expected diet of sun, sand and surf on offer in the Bay of Plenty but, with the mercury constantly around the 30-degree mark, sweat was arguably the dominant ‘s’ word.

After travelling to Papamoa on Auckland’s Anniversary Monday, the work began on Tuesday with the first of four trips to Blake Park in Mount Maunganui where the players had four intensive field sessions along with gym and video sessions plus pool recovery at the adjacent Adams Centre. There were also workshops, team meetings and activities at the camp base while Vodafone Warriors great Awen Guttenbeil was a special guest on Wednesday night when he spoke to the squad after dinner.

There in the background throughout was Vodafone Warriors TV capturing another episode of the All In series.
