Trophy on debut at Mount Smart

The NRLW premiership trophy makes its debut appearance in New Zealand at today's historic standalone clash between the Warriors and the St George Illawarra Dragons at Mount Smart Stadium (3.15pm kick-off).

The weighty prize crossed the Tasman on its maiden trip out of Australia yesterday, touching down after the Warriors had completed their final field session ahead of today's momentous occasion.

Warriors forwards Annetta Nuuausala and Onjeurlina Leiataua were on hand to welcome the trophy to Mount Smart with Nuuausala keen to see the trophy returning for a longer stay.

“Hopefully in a few weeks we will have it back for good!” Nuuausala said.

“It’s cool that it is over here as it’s not every day we get a NRLW game here at home in front of our family and friends.

“It’s a good opportunity for everyone to come out and support us and see what we can do.

“We’re used to flying over to Australia every week as the underdogs, so it’s good to be at home, in front of our family and hopefully we get the win.”

With Brisbane beating the Sydney Roosters yesterday, a win over the Dragons today will ensure the Warriors face the Broncos in the NRLW grand final at ANZ Stadium on Sunday, October 6.
