OLA's guide to game day: Round #8 Kids Day Out

Free all-you-can-eat Mr Whippy ice creams, a first look at the Vodafone Warriors’ touch teams, the Mitre 10 Mini Golf Masters and a plethora of other activities for the family are the key features of game day this Sunday.

Fresh from a gritty performance against the Melbourne Storm on Anzac Day, the Vodafone Warriors are back home and preparing to take on the Newcastle Knights at Mt Smart Stadium this Sunday. Kick-off is at 4pm.

To celebrate the club’s first Sunday game at home for the 2019 campaign, the match day is being promoted as a “Kids’ Day Out” and for the young and young-at-heart, it’s one not to be missed.

For starters, all kids attending Mt Smart Stadium on Sunday will be treated to as much Mr Whippy ice cream as they can eat. Or, more to the point, how much their parents or caregivers will let them eat! To access the free ice cream*, youngsters will need to head to the Mr Whippy Kids’ Zone in the Entertainment Precinct just in front of the big screen.

But that’s not all. The Mitre 10 Mini Golf course – a New Zealand stadium first – has been hugely popular since it’s launch in round one. But this Sunday, things are about to go to the next level.

Has your little one got the skills of a young Tiger Woods? Are they a putting champion-in-the-making? Then sign them up for the Mitre 10 Mini Golf Masters and they could win the orange jacket at half-time.

Places are limited to 100 kids and the competition will take place between 1:30pm-3:30pm. Register now to avoid disappointment. To be eligible to enter, you must have a child’s ticket or membership - click here to register.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Kids’ Day Out at Mt Smart Stadium without carnival rides and the return of the ever-popular Little Bo Peep’s Mobile Barnyard. We’ve got cup and saucer rides, a mini ferris wheel and a merry-go-round. And they’re all free!

The Community Corner is also, as always, the place to be for the kids this Sunday. We’ve mixed it up a bit and in addition to face painters, there’ll also be a horizontal bungee to test your try-scoring abilities.

Keep your eye out for our roving entertainers, too. We’ve got Roro the Clown, balloon twisters, a bubble machine, giant Jenga, Snakes and Ladders and Connect 4, while musician Tim Prier will light up the iHeartRadio Sound Stage from 2pm.

If prizes are more your thing, check out the Autex prize cube in the Entertainment Precinct for the chance to win merch, movie passes and other awesome swag.

But don’t forget to swing past the Mazda BT-50 and take some time out of your day to draw on it or scribble a message of support for the boys.

As they did for the round six clash with the Cowboys, the Vodafone Warriors’ official ride-share partner, Ola, has once again set up a special coupon that will give fans $20 off their first ride. To access the discount, fans should enter the code “WARRIORS”. Get the app here.

And that’s just off the field.

This Sunday also heralds in the much-anticipated arrival of the Warriors men’s and women’s touch teams who square off against the Sydney Roosters in their inaugural NRL Touch Premiership clashes.

There’s no question it’s going to big Sunday down at Mt Smart Stadium with five games of footy for the price of one.

The Vodafone Warriors’ Jersey Flegg team kicks proceedings off at 10am against the Newcastle Knights. Then it’s the touch teams from 12:05pm.

After that, the Vodafone Warriors take on the Knights in the Canterbury Cup NSW competition before the NRL kick-off at 4pm.

Speaking of footy and this is also the round we look to reward the future Roger Tuivasa-Shecks of the local club scene.

For this game day only and for just $130, clubs will be able to bring 17 kids and two adults to the football to sit in GA seats and cheer the Vodafone Warriors on. That’s just $5 per child and $15 per adult.

The offer is open to all rugby league teams across the country and the only condition is the players must be 15 or under on January 1, 2019 to qualify for the child pricing. To find out more, click here.

For those fans wanting to make and even stronger commitment to their team, the Vodafone Warriors have also launched a Weekend Warrior membership.

With four regular season home games remaining that fall on a Saturday or Sunday, the Weekend Warrior package is perfect for those who want to show their support but can’t get to our Friday night fixtures.

Priced at just $55 for adults or $30 for kids in GA seating, get yours today:
