Vodafone launches text service for big charity day

Principal partner Vodafone has added its own touch to “The Great Vodafone Warriors Charity Day” today by launching a special text service to drive donations.

Vodafone’s commitment comes two days after Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George announced plans for “the biggest charity game day in New Zealand sport” when the club hosts fierce rival Melbourne at Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday, July 22 (4.00pm kick-off).

George said $50,000 will be shared by four organisations if the stadium is sold out; the beneficiaries are KidsCan, Paralympics New Zealand, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Shine.

Vodafone has quickly added another dimension to fundraising plans as interest in the big day gathers pace.

The text-a-donation service (details below) provides an opportunity for all Vodafone Warriors members and fans to make a personal contribution. Each text will provide $3.00 for “The Great Vodafone Warriors Charity Day” (donors can text as many times as they wish).

“It’s tremendous having Vodafone jumping onboard as we look to make this a day for everyone to remember, especially our fantastic charity partners,” said George.

“We just encourage everyone to buy their tickets now so we fill the ground and raise as much money as we can.”

More fundraising initiatives will be unveiled in the coming days above and beyond the donation of $50,000 to the charities if the stadium is sold out. For a crowd of 20,000, the donation will be $25,000, $10,000 for a crowd of 15,000 and $5000 for 10,000.
