New Zealand Maori and Samoa won each of their games in the under-16 and under-18 competitions on the opening day of the inaugural Pasifika Youth Cup at Cornwall Park.

The tournament kicked off in the afternoon after a captivating powhiri at Mount Smart Stadium when the New Zealand Maori Rugby League welcomed the other participating teams.

Also present at the powhiri were senior dignitaries from the Cook Islands and other community leaders.

Under-16s
