Three team awards are given out each month to the players: Asics Attacking Player of the Month, Canterbury Defender of the Month and the Mana Award.
These are the award winners for the month of July:
ASICS ATTACKING PLAYER OF THE MONTH | JACOB LILLYMAN
Jacob Lillyman has been chosen as the team’s best attacking player for the second time this year, and for good reason. The Queensland-born forward had a memorable month as he relished a recall into the Origin side. Lillyman was pivotal in a big Origin III victory for the Maroons, running for 97 metres and making 21 tackles at Suncorp Stadium. He backed this up with three key performances in the Vodafone Warriors jersey, particularly against the Broncos when he ran for 132 metres and shed 4 tackles.
CANTERBURY DEFENDER OF THE MONTH | CHAD TOWNSEND
Chad Townsend makes his first appearance as a player of the month after an exceptional run of form in the defensive ranks. Townsend led the way for the backline in each of the team’s July fixtures by being their leading tackler. He was particularly on-point against Brisbane, throwing his body on the line and making 23 tackles. He coped well with the omission of Shaun Johnson from the team-sheet in the Round 20 match with Manly, pairing up well with the experienced Thomas Leuluai in the halves.
MANA AWARD | DOMINIQUE PEYROUX
Dominique Peyroux is July’s recipient of the Mana Award after a month in which he put significant pressure on the first grade side for a spot in the team with some impressive form in NSW Cup play. Peyroux gained the applause of the coaching staff after working tenaciously and giving his all on the field and during training sessions.
