Fullback Sam Tomkins is travelling to Brisbane with the Vodafone Warriors today ahead of their 19th-round NRL match with the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday (7.30pm kick-off local time; 9.30pm NZT).
The 25-year-old Tomkins picked up a mild hip flexor strain during the squad’s final field session in Auckland ahead of the critical clash pitting the sixth-placed Vodafone Warriors against the seventh-placed Broncos.
“We’re hopeful Sam will be able to play,” said head coach Andrew McFadden.
“He’s receiving treatment and he’ll be given every opportunity to prove his fitness.”
McFadden confirmed centre-winger Solomone Kata had been added to the squad as cover. While still eligible for the Vodafone Warriors’ NYC side, Kata has been playing for the club’s New South Wales Cup team most of the year, scoring a hat-trick in his 10th appearance in last Saturday’s 30-6 win over Wentworthville. He also represented the club at the inaugural Dick Smith NRL Auckland Nines at Eden Park in February.
The Vodafone Warriors will have an open training session at Langlands Park, home ground to the Brisbane Easts Tigers, tomorrow morning.
