Named GIFT FOR GIFT, Bendons new programme aims to raise underwear gift donations which will be allocated to Kenyan communities. These communities live without the things most New Zealanders take for granted. This Christmas, Bendon customers will have an added feel good factor when gifting their loved ones.
Bendon has formed a partnership with New Zealand based global organisation, International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ), who have established networks for distribution and volunteers who can ensure the underwear gifts reach the communities in most need.
Justin Davis-Rice, Bendons CEO, says the company has pledged to gift a minimum of $130,000 worth of underwear to communities in Kenya, to be distributed in early 2014.
"IVHQ has selected areas of high need to donate the items to including Kibera, Africa's largest slum. We hope our customers will embrace this opportunity to make a difference at Christmas time, said Davis-Rice.
International Volunteer HQ Executive Director Daniel Radcliffe says Bendons product will make a tangible difference in the lives of the people who live in the communities they work with.
Underwear is an everyday necessity needed to maintain hygiene and helps protect sensitive parts of the body from dirt and bacteria," he said.
"It can also protect from chaffing, redness and irritation caused where harder clothes may rub on sensitive skin.
Our programme staff in Kenya welcome the opportunity to work in collaboration with Bendon. For our part we manage the distribution of Bendons product to those communities in need, taking into account the importance of delivering the gifts in a socially responsible way, from selecting appropriate sizes, to removing tags to avoid littering."
