New Vodafone Warriors signing Sam Tomkins has the chance for the ultimate farewell appearance with the Wigan Warriors after they beat the Leeds Rhinos 22-12 today to reach the Super League grand final at Old Trafford next Saturday (early Sunday NZT).
Wigan, which finished fourth in the regular season, is now eyeing the Challenge Cup-Super League double after winning the former at Wembley last month.
Tomkins, whose three-year Vodafone Warriors contract was confirmed on Tuesday, couldnt boost his near try-a-match strike rate in his farewell appearance in front of his home crowd at DW Stadium but he and his Wigan team-mates had the satisfaction of eliminating 2012 champions the Rhinos to set up a grand final showdown against the Warrington Wolves.
The Wolves eliminated minor premier Huddersfield 30-22 yesterday.
Wigan had the week off after beating Huddersfield 22-8 in week one. The Warriors led 6-0 at halftime with Tomkins releasing Pat Richards to set up a try for Iain Thornley.
The Rhinos were on level terms at 6-6 early in the second half after former Vodafone Warrior Joel Moon scored but the Warriors soon assumed control.
Match details:

(4) Wigan Warriorns (Iain Thornley , Liam Farrell, Darrell Goulding, Joshn Charnley tries; Pat Richards 3 goals).
(3) Leeds Rhinos 12 (Joel Moon, Liam Sutcliffe tries; Kevin Sinfield 2 goals).
