An emotional Steve Menzies (pictured) ended his 21-season playing career as his Les Catalans Dragons side lost 4-14 to Hull FC in Friday nights elimination final at KC Stadium in Hull. Photo: Photosport
Menzies, who turns 40 in December, started his first-grade career as long ago as 1993, amassing a total of close to 500 appearances for Manly, the Northern Eagles, Bradford and Les Catalans and scoring more than 230 tries.
But his French club couldnt give him another week as a player in a lack lustre match in a grim night in Hull.
Only two tries were scored in the match, one of them to former Wests Tigers back rower Gareth Ellis.
Three former Vodafone Warriors lined up, Aaron Heremaia for Hull FC and Ian Henderson and Brent Webb for the Dragons.
A special guest among the sparse crowd of less than 5000 was former world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield.
