Some of the clubs old boys will join volunteers to support a Lythe family fundraising collection when the the Vodafone Warriors play Gold Coast at Mount Smart Stadium, the first time theyve been at home for a month (NYC kick-off 11.45am; NRL kick-off 2.00pm; match day sponsor: DEWALT).
The rugby league community has rallied around the family since former Vodafone Warrior Ben Lythes wife Mardie was left a paraplegic after severing her spine in a flying fox accident in late March.
The Vodafone Warriors donated $5000 to a fund set up to support the Lythes and their four daughters aged 7-16 and want to do more to help Vodafone Warrior No 79 Lythe and his family as they face up to a challenging future.
Old boys and volunteers will be at the gates with collection buckets around Mount Smart Stadium ahead of todays matches (gates open at 11.30am and tickets).
As well as the Lythe collection there will be a number of other features and activities planned around todays NYC and NRL matches.
Double passes will be given away to the New Zealand Comedy Festival and match day sponsor DEWALT will be running a lucky fan competition, firing T shirts into the crowd and staging the DEWALT Dash obstacle relay race at halftime with secondary schools teams competing. Classic New Zealand songs will feature on the playlist during the day as the Vodafone Warriors show their support for New Zealand Music Month. A competition is being run on the clubs Facebook page asking members and fans to list their top three Kiwi songs of all time with some of the selections featuring in the music inserts at the three home games in May (todays match against Gold Coast, next Saturdays encounter with the Bulldogs in Wellington and the May 26 match against Newcastle at Mount Smart Stadium). Sony Music New Zealand has provided copies of Kiwi artist Stan Walkers latest album The Complete Collection as prizes as well as double passes to Homemade in Auckland on May 23, a new music showcase featuring Walker as well as Sons of Zion and Soljah.
Members of the three-peat SKYCITY Breakers will be among the guests joining corporate members in Gold Lounge in the East Stand while therell also be plenty of activity and banter in the adjoining Legends of League lounge.
