Vodafone Warriors staff members and players’ partners recently attended a ‘You and Your Career’ workshop focusing on their wellbeing and career objectives.
Held in conjunction with the NRL’s Women in League Round, the workshop’s aim was to refocus attention back onto the women, understand a career from a holistic perspective, gain insight through other journeys and begin a developing process for career vision and strategy.
The event was facilitated by NRL career and transition coach Judy Fitzgerald, who flew over from Sydney bringing her expertise in career development.
Natasha Guttenbeil, former Vodafone Warrior Awen Guttenbeil’s wife, led a question and answer session accompanied by other former Vodafone Warriors’ wives – Andria Vagana (Joe Vagana), Rachelle Jones (Stacey Jones) and Jenn Webb (Brent Webb) – who all shared their experiences.
“As noted throughout the session these women can spend their partner’s whole NRL career taking a back seat to their own needs to take care of everything off-field,” said Vodafone Warriors football coordinator Carmen Taplin.
“The session was very relatable for our players and staff partners. The tools Judy provided on the evening were transferrable for all the attendees.”
The night involved a lot of reconnection and networking among the women, inspiring and empowering each other to provide women with a voice.
It was also an opportunity for women to self-reflect and take the time to value their contribution to the workforce whether it be through study, business or career pathways.
“We received overwhelming feedback that the workshop was very helpful not only for our current players’ partners but also for our panellists who shared experiences from their lives and careers,” said Taplin.
“The night was awesome for the ladies to network, share information and to ask questions providing key evidence for us that more work in this space is needed.”
