Verran Primary School in Birkenhead is becoming a literary hub as Vodafone Warrior Albert Vete discovered when he presented newest League in Libraries author Tyler Stevenson with his just-published story ‘Josh and his Time Machine’ in front of staff and students.
Tyler is the second student from Verran Primary to win the League in Libraries programme supported by Konica Minolta, following on from former student Halle Driver’s success with her story ‘Lost and Found’ in the 2014 competition.
Vodafone Warriors community relations manager Petrece Kesha said Tyler’s concept of featuring the Vodafone Warriors plus a bit of time travel made his story stand out from the rest of the entries.
The League in Libraries competition is in its ninth year and, over the past eight years, it has gone from strength to strength thanks to long-time supporter Konica Minolta. With Konica Minolta’s involvement the competition now boasts six published authors (three boys and three girls).
With Konica Minolta’s continued support the Harvey Noman Community Warriors is aiming to the expand League in Libraries in 2017 to include intermediate schools with two separate competitions – one for year four to six pupils in primary schools and one for year seven to eight student in intermediate schools.
The Vodafone Warriors will begin the quests for their 2017 authors with entry packs to be distributed to schools in November.
