Senior Vodafone Warriors players have paid tribute to just-retired RadioSport rugby league commentator Allen McLaughlin, who was honoured with the SKYCITY Legacy Award at the Vodafone Warriors' 22nd annual awards this week.

McLaughlin (66) called a Vodafone Warriors NRL game at Mount Smart Stadium for the last time on September 4.

Of the 254 first-grade matches the Vodafone Warriors have played at their home since starting out in 1995, McLaughlin says he has missed just one while his comments man former Kiwi Owen Wright - who has also finished up - was absent just three times.

'Mac' was there for the memorable opening night on March 10, 1995, and has called a string of unforgettable contests and moments at the ground where the Vodafone Warriors have won close to 60 per cent of their games. Not least among them have been the home finals wins over Canberra in 2002 and the Roosters in 2008.

Across those 22 seasons McLaughlin, such a passionate rugby league supporter, has been close to ever-present at weekly media sessions and other club occasions as well.

To recognise his contribution to the Vodafone Warriors, the club this week presented him with the SKYCITY Legacy Award which has previously been reserved for players who have played for the Vodafone Warriors across 10 or more NRL seasons.
