It's a big week for... Shaun Johnson

Shaun Johnson has been a key beneficiary from the Vodafone Warriors’ overall lift in performance in their last two matches against Brisbane and Newcastle.

With the forwards winning the battle in the middle third of the field, the 25-year-old playmaker has had plenty of quality possession to work with.

Popping up on both sides of the ruck, Johnson has prospered with influential showings against both the Broncos and the Knights. He and the rest of the squad will be striving to come up with the same formula against the Sydney Roosters at Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday (6.10pm).

With his five goals from six attempts against the Knights, Johnson has once again broken through the 100 points mark for a season. His total of 104 points leaves him fourth on the NRL's 2016 points-scoring chart with 22 of his tally coming in the last two outings. Ahead of him are Jarrod Croker, James Maloney and Johnathan Thurston.

He also ranks fourth for most try assists so far with 11 (behind Ben Hunt, Thurston and Luke Brooks) and fourth for most kicks in play.

His numbers in the last two games have been revealing. With the Vodafone Warriors dominant up front, he has come up with three try assists, four line break assists and two line breaks while he has also made 24 runs (and it should be remembered he was off the field for the last 13 minutes in Newcastle).

Going into his 115th career appearance this week, Johnson is closing in on Stacey Jones’ all-time club points-scoring record of 674 from his 261 games from 1995-2009. While Jones was a back-up goal kicker throughout his career he still kicked 176 goals alongside his 77 tries and 14 field goals; only in 2005, when he was required to take over the frontline kicking duties, did he top 100 points.

Johnson has 646 points from 52 tries, 216 goals and six field goals having scored 100 points in each of the last four years.
