NRL referees' boss Tony Archer has admitted the decision to sin bin Vodafone Warriors centre Blake Ayshford in Monday night's clash against Melbourne shouldn't have happened.
Ayshford was sin-binned for a professional foul when he chased back to join fullback Tuimoala Lolohea in stopping Melbourne fullback Cameron Munster after he'd boken clear from his own in-goal.
Munster was brought down just inside Melbourne's half with referee Matt Cecchin immediately sending Ayshford off for 10 minutes for being too slow to get off Munster.
The incident happened in the 14th minute when the Vodafone Warriors were down 0-10.
Melbourne scored from the repeat set after the penalty and the sin-binning before adding another try while Ayshford was off. When he returned in the 24th minute, the Storm had a 22-0 lead.
In his weekly refree review on nrl.com Archer said Ayshford should have been penalised only but not sent to sin bin.
Earlier this month Archer conceded a wrong decision was made when the Vodafone Warriors played the Sydney Roosters.
Vodafone Warriors captain Ryan Hoffman was impeded by Aidan Guerra as he chased down a Jeff Robson grubber with a try in the offing. There were calls at the time that it might have warranted a penalty try or at the very least a trip to the sin bin for Guerra for a professional foul. In the end only a penalty was awarded but Archer subsequently ruled a sin-binning should have been the outcome.
