Kiwi and Vodafone Warriors captain Simon Mannering has been ruled out of New Zealand’s coming tour to England on medical grounds.

The 29-year-old has had a series of tests since finishing his 11th NRL campaign last month.

“Simon has some gastric issues which have affected him during the season,” said Vodafone Warriors head doctor John Mayhew.

“While tests we’ve conducted haven’t revealed anything to cause alarm Simon still isn’t right and requires further assessment.”

Mannering was named in the Kiwis’ train-on squad but hasn’t been involved in any training sessions held since the club’s NRL campaign finished.

Vodafone Warriors head coach Andrew McFadden said Mannering will be given a long break.

“We know what it means to Simon to play for the Kiwis but his wellbeing is the priority right now,” he said.

“He won’t be required to train until December. We need to give him every opportunity to get himself right.”

Mannering has played 71 of the Vodafone Warriors’ 72 matches in the last three seasons and has also been close to ever-present for the Kiwis since the 2013 Rugby League World Cup; he has played in 11 of their 12 Tests in that period as well as a World Cup warm-up game against the Cook Islands.
